University Presidents' Delegation to Indonesia

2008 University Presidents' Delegation to Indonesia

Dr. Allan E. Goodman, President and CEO of the Institute of International Education

Invites you to participate in the

U.S. College Presidents' Delegation to Indonesia

July 12-18, 2009

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is exploring your interest in a special "U.S. College Presidents' Delegation to Indonesia" to promote U.S. higher education and expand linkages with institutions in Indonesia.

The Presidents' Delegation is tenatively scheduled for July 12-18, 2009. College and university presidents of IIENetwork member institutions are invited to join Dr. Allan E. Goodman, President and CEO of IIE, on this important mission. Our hope is that we would receive support for all in-country expenses, so that the only cost is the travel to and from Jakarta.

The Delegation of 12-15 college presidents would meet with senior officials at the Ministry of Education, local universities, the U.S. Embassy, the Fulbright Commission, and rectors and other senior officials at local universities throughout Indonesia. The Delegation would receive briefings from the Director of the Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIE/Indonesia) to learn more about how this office can assist your institution in attracting more international students and developing linkages with institutions in the host country.

Indonesia, the largest country in the region and with a significant Muslim population, has historically sent a large number of students to study in the United States. In recent years, however, this has declined and fewer Indonesians attend U.S. colleges and universities today than a decade ago. The future of academic exchange depends heavily on the relationships forged with higher education institutions in Indonesia. This is why your involvement in this delegation is so important.

Presidents are encouraged to bring along the appropriate colleague from your institution who assists you in advancing international initiatives on your campus.
